CAN’T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG? LIGHTEN UP!!!

Posted by lowellspinners on February 10, 2006

Okay, by now you’ve all heard about our latest and greatest promotion to date…the “Yankees Elimination” from New England Little Leagues. Listen, this promotion is all in FUN. Some of my best friends in this industry work for other organizations; Yankees, Tigers, Nationals, Athletics, Orioles…the list goes on and on. It’s like a brotherhood for those of us in professional sports. We don’t harbor any ill feelings toward any organization. In fact, I told the Staten Island Yankees about this promotion prior to releasing it and they thought it was great! They have plans to retaliate (all in fun) when we visit them this season. I think that’s wonderful. Our main goal behind this promotion was to reach out to AREA Little League organizations to build long-term relationships. We want their players to come out to LeLacheur Park, experience the entertainment we offer and actually play an exhibition game on the field where Major League stars have played. We’re even willing to absorb the cost of “replacement” uniforms. We never dreamed this story would go national. ESPN.com, ABC News, Fox News…. Since that has happened, we’ve extended way outside our market. We’ve swelled to over 30 organizations seeking to “eliminate” the Yankees in favor of the Spinners. While we plan to honor our desire to pay for new uniforms, this has extended way beyond our wildest imaginations. Having said that…we are looking for businesses to help out. Call us if you are interested. Tim Bawmann, General Manager

10th Anniversary Memory

Posted by lowellspinners on February 8, 2006

Hello Fans this is Jon Goode. As many of you know this is a very special season for the Spinners because it’s our 10th Anniversary. Many of us here in the front office cannot believe it has been that long and we have been sharing memories with each other. There have been many good times shared by all.

Personally I will never forget when we set the Guinness Record for the World’s Largest Game of Duck, Duck Goose. It was a year and a half in the making with all the time it took to get an okay from Guinness. Finally we got the okay, set it up for Saturday, August 14 after the game. I was convinced we would get the necessary 350 fans needed and many more.

Then the one thing I was dreading happened! The game went into extra-innings and seriously what are the chances? To top it off the 10th inning came and went. The 11th inning came and went. I literally had John Raffety, our PA Announcer, begging fans to stay so we could set the record. Then the 12th inning came and went, the 13th inning came and went. Finally, the Tri-City Valley Cats pulled out the win in 14 innings. I probably should not admit this, but it was the one time I was actually excited the opposing team scored.

In the end everything worked out and we set the Guinness World Record for the World’s Largest Game of Duck, Duck Goose with 432 people. It was a stressful extra-innings for me, but a memory I will never forget.

We would love for you to share some of your favorite memories with us.
