Sox Call on Abe

Posted by lowellspinners on May 21, 2006

Yesterday, the Red Sox recalled former Spinners right-handed pitcher Abe Alvarez from Pawtucket. Alvarez had pitched well in Triple-A, with a 2.18 ERA and a 5-0 record in seven starts.

Abe joins current Red Sox Jonathan Papelbon and Cubs outfielder Matt Murton as 2003 Spinners on Major League rosters.

UPDATE: Alvarez has entered the game in relief of pitcher Lenny DiNardo in the third inning.
