If you were at Fenway Park tonight, or watched closely on TV, you would have seen the Lowell Spinners own Bristles at tonight’s Red Sox game. A special guest for Tuesday Tooth Night, the nine-foot Spinners mascot was thrilled to be a part of the pre-game festivities.
Bristles was seen hanging out with one of his closest friends, Wally the Green Monster, while at the game. He posed for pictures, honored special guests, and participated in pre-game ceremonies.
For more Spinners/Red Sox cross-over, be sure to attend Lowell’s August 10 game, featuring a special guest appearance by Wally as the Spinners prep to take the field for the August 11 Futures at Fenway event.

Have you seen the newest ESPN commercial with cheerleaders and a t-shirt toss inside the ESPN office? Watch the left-hand side of the desk they focus on. On it you’ll see a Jack Kerouac bobblehead!
The famous Kerouac bobble, from our 2003 season, was one of the most successful promotions in Lowell Spinners and Minor League Baseball history. It was so popular it was even accepted into the Baseball Hall of Fame Museum!

The Spinners and the Boise Hawks, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, today announced that they have launched an inter-team promotion based on a common link: twin Papelbon pitchers.
Both the Spinners and the Hawks roster one of the Papelbon twins, little brothers of Boston Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon, who were both drafted out of the University of North Florida in last June’s Draft. Left-hander Jeremy plays for Boise while right-handed submariner Joshua plays for Lowell.
The Papelbon Papel-bet will pit the twins against one another in a friendly wager based on their season-ending ERA’s. Whichever team’s Papelbon has the highest ERA loses and makes a contribution to the winning Papelbon’s charity of choice.
The amount of the donation depends on the difference between the twins’ ERA’s. For every half-run difference, the losing team owes $50. For example, if Jeremy finishes the season with a 1.00 ERA and Joshua finishes with a 3.00 ERA, the Lowell Spinners would pay $200 to Jeremy’s charity of choice.
Joshua Papelbon recently allowed his first earned runs of the season and currently stands with a 2.08 ERA while Jeremy has a 1.30 ERA.
The winner will be announced as soon as both teams’ seasons end, and the Papelbon Papel-Bet will include playoff statistics.
You can track the twins’ ERA’s and the bet value on the Spinners homepage at www.lowellspinners.com.
What do you think of the Papelbon Papel-Bet? Who will win?! Weigh in with your own comments and let Joshua know you’re behind him!

Things will be a bit different at LeLacheur Park tonight. The Spinners have officially changed their name to the “Mike Lowell” Spinners for the day and Red Sox pitcher Keith Foulke is scheduled to make a rehab appearance.
It was announced earlier this week that Foulke, on the disabled list for most of the 2006 season, would be on hand in Lowell tonight. He made two rehab appearances in Lowell last summer.
Foulke’s scheduled appearance coincides with the Spinners changing their name to the “Mike Lowell Spinners” for one game. Each player, including Foulke, will wear a special jersey that reads “Mike Lowell” on the front. The jerseys will be auctioned off during the game to benefit Lowell Spinners charities.
Mike Lowell will not be in attendance as the Red Sox are home that night against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. However, updates of Mike Lowell’s performance will be featured during the Spinners game on LeLacheur Park’s Pepsi VideoBoard, along with pre-recorded Mike Lowell footage.
In honor of Mike Lowell, who is currently tied for the Major League lead with 35 doubles, the Lowell Spinners will donate $50 to the Winter Warmth Project for each double Spinners batters hit during Mike Lowell Night, and special Mike Lowell double-cheeseburgers will be on sale at the Spinners concessions stands for the evening.
Friday’s game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m. and standing room tickets can be purchased for $3.50 at the Lowell Spinners Box Office or at 978-459-1702.

The MLB Draft begins tomorrow, which means the Lowell Spinners season is right around the corner.
As a short-season team, the Spinners are comprised mostly of college-drafted players. So for a good idea of who the Spinners might be rostering in 2006, pay attention to the Red Sox college draft picks.
But we won't know who will be a Spinner in 2006 for sure until the team arrives early the following week.
You can follow the draft live at www.mlb.com.
