Two former Spinners, Red Sox rookie closer Jonathan Papelbon and Pirates infielder Freddy Sanchez, were named All-Stars today.
Sanchez, a 2000 Spinner, is batting .368 with five home runs and 45 RBI. In 34 games with the Spinners, Sanchez hit .288 with 13 doubles and a home run.
Papelbon, the first former Spinner to be named to an All-Star team as a rookie, has 25 saves and a 0.43 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 41.2 innings of work.
Both Sanchez and Papelbon are being honored with bobblehead giveaways on July 26 and August 17, respectively.
The MLB All-Star game is scheduled for July 11.
