Zach Daeges, an outfielder for the 2006 Spinners, won the Eastern League Topps Player of the Month award for May. Daeges hit .414 on the month with 13 extra base hits, 14 RBI, 17 runs scored and 29 walks in just 26 games.
Daeges was a sixth round pick from Creighton in 2006. Making his pro debut with Lowell, he hit .288 with four homers and 32 RBI in 55 games. He also showed his excellent plate discipline, walking 35 times and only striking out 40 times.
Last year in the hitter-friendly California League Daeges continued to hit well, and added some power to his game. He hit .330 with 81 extra base hits (21 HR) in 127 games with high-A Lancaster. Once again, his walk total nearly matched his strikeouts as he walked 82 times compared with only 97 fans.
