The Red Sox have acquired C/1B Victor Martinez from Cleveland for former Spinners Justin Masterson, Nick Hagadone and Bryan Price.
Justin Masterson was drafted by the Red Sox in the second round of the 2006 MLB Draft. Masterson began his career here in Lowell going 3-1 with a .85 ERA in 14 games with the Spinners. He made his major league debut on April 24, 2008, pitching six innings of one run ball against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Masterson pitched in 36 games with the Red Sox in 2008 compiling a 3.16 ERA and being a key component of the Red Sox playoff run, as he was an important piece out of the bullpen. This season, Masterson had pitched in 31 games, making six starts, with a 4,50 ERA. Masterson had a bobblehead night in Lowell on July 23rd, 2009.
Nick Hagadone was selected by the Red Sox in the 1st round of the 2007 MLB Draft. He began his professional career in Lowell in 2007, pitching in 10 games with a 1.85 ERA. Hagadone missed the majority of 2008 after undergoing “Tommy John” surgery and this season with Greenville was 0-2 with a 2.86 ERA in 9 games. Hagadone was regarded as the Red Sox #10 prospect. He is highly regarded, being a power throwing lefthander.
Bryan Price was selected by the Red Sox in the first round of the 2008 MLB Draft. Price began his career in Lowell in 2008 pitching in 12 games and compiling a 3.83 ERA. This season, Price split time between Salem and Greenville, posting a 2.45 ERA in 8 games in Greenville and a 6.54 ERA in 11 games in Salem.
